Nestled against the Sangre de Cristo mountains in downtown Santa Fe, Nedra Matteucci Galleries is a 15,000 square-foot adobe building housing one of the most stunning collections in the region. Its prominence as a respected art institution and one-of-a-kind character has led to its legacy as a legendary Santa Fe landmark for over 50 years.

It is proudly owned by Nedra Matteucci, an influential figure with deep roots in New Mexico and the fine art world, who has forged a sterling reputation as one of the top art dealers in the country.

The gallery specializes in historic American and Southwestern art, including works by the Taos Society of Artists and early Santa Fe art colony. Among its many iconic artists on display are works by Nicolai Fechin, Leon Gaspard, Gene Kloss, E. I. Couse, and more. It also represents some of the best artists working in contemporary Southwestern art today, such as William Acheff, Walt Gonske, and Sherrie McGraw.

The vast collection spans the gallery's many rooms, each filled with a diverse array of beautiful and eclectic pieces, including Native pottery and jewelry, antiques, and unique furnishings.

Many visitors remark that the building itself is a work of art, with hallmark architectural features of "Santa Fe Style", like vigas (the large wooden beams spanning the ceiling), kiva fireplaces, and an horno in the front courtyard. Originally made up of three tiny, 19th-century farmhouses combined in the early 1900s, the gallery's sprawling layout has been a century and a half in the making, growing and expanding much like Santa Fe itself.

William Acheff - Sacred, oil on canvas, 24 x 20 in.

The gallery is also home to an impressive selection of sculpture, ranging from miniature and maquette-sized pieces to true monuments in bronze, marble, and beyond. The primary representative of such major names in national sculpture as Glenna Goodacre, Doug Hyde, Dan Ostermiller, and Michael Naranjo, the gallery provides unrivaled access to their work.

The largest pieces are displayed in the gallery’s renowned one-acre sculpture garden, which features a koi pond, water features, and lush vegetation—an oasis in the high desert. Once a private backyard area, owner Nedra Matteucci opened the garden to the public in the late 1980s, where it has since hosted countless visitors from all over the world, among them celebrities and dignitaries. Sharp-eyed guests may spot turtles basking in the sun, ducks, and a variety of other birds such as Blue Herons, which visit upon occasion.

Today, the gallery and its garden are a must-see destination in the City Different, drawing both serious collectors and the simply curious. For those seeking an authentic Western experience that is Santa Fe to its core, the gallery is unmissable. It is free to enter and explore, with friendly and engaging staff ready to answer any questions. Families and pets welcome!
